I think watching awards shows on TV are really a very silly wastes of ones time. While I tend to think that giving the Mark Twain award to Tina Fey was akin to Barrack Obama getting the Nobel Peace prize after having done nothing to earn it. Neither really deserved their awards at this point. Actually, Fey did do more to earn her award but, still her body of work is still minuscule at this point compared to some of the previous award winners. I think she would probably have deserved it at some point but, not now.
But, the real outrageous part of the presentation is that PBS edited Tina Fey's remarks during her acceptance speech. Here is the money quote from the PBS Ombudsman on the issue:
"Tina Fey got a little political airbrushing from PBS on Sunday night during its annual broadcast of the Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize for American Humor." His follow-up report also included the lines that were cut and opened the floodgates of criticism from viewers and pundits that PBS was manipulating its audience and pandering to conservative politics. Kaminsky was also quoted by Farhi as saying this "was not a political decision. We had zero problems with anything she said," and it was hard to find anyone who believed that."
Seems the left is concerned that PBS is scared of upsetting the Conservative viewers of it's broadcasts. Well, they should be. As I understand it PBS is supposed to stand for Public Broadcasting System and not the Progressive BroadcastingSystem. But, of course the real reason Tina Fey won this award in the first place is not because of her "extensive" body of work in comedy but, rather her mocking of a conservative woman namely Sarah Palin.
